“The Abominable Gardener”

The gardener was grateful for two things above all: the fact that there was no-one around for miles (he hated interruptions), and the incinerator.

Of course, he’d made sure the place had an incinerator before he took the job, he always did. That part was non-negotiable. It made everything so much easier.

A gleam in the dirt caught his eye. He bent down.

“Sloppy,” he muttered. He grabbed hold of the finger, pulled the ring off and pocketed it.

He pushed the hand back down under the dirt and resumed his shoveling.

Ten minutes later he stopped to admire his work. The patch looked completely natural.

He’d have to conceal the bodies better of course, hence the incinerator, but this was enough for today. There was no rush.

He had all summer.

  1. A wonderfully chilling story, Sonny! I have to wonder who his victims are – though your opening line makes me think it might just be people who were foolish enough to interrupt him. Very nicely done. πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you very much! πŸ™‚ Yeah, I ran out of words so I left the question about who his victims are unanswered, but it could absolutely be people who interrupt him. It could also be those unlucky enough to hire him as their gardener. Or both. ^_^

  2. Well, if you’re going to take on a job, you might as well manage your time to do it right. O.O This entertained me. Your MC is thinking clearly but his actions are [insert creative adjective here]. Lol. Great job
