The bartender at “funky munky” handed the photo back to her. “Sorry, don’t recognize him.”
“Thanks for your time,” Judy said, and reached for the photo, but the bartender didn’t let go.
“Although…” he said, “With a red wig, some lipstick and eyeliner… That’s Amy! Wow.”
Judy struggled to find words. “No, what… What do you… That’s my dad.”
“Oh, you must be Judy, then!”
Judy felt her jaw drop. “How did you-”
“Amy told us all about you! Proudest parent I ever met,” he said, and pointed at the wall behind her.
The wall was plastered with Polaroids of patrons, all smiling and laughing. Many photos featured a woman with red hair. Judy couldn’t believe her eyes. Dad?
“Haven’t seen her in a while though,” the bartender said.
Judy’s head was spinning. She’d finally figured out what he’d meant. “Go to funky munky”.
She smiled. “funky munky.” Now I know, dad. Rest in peace.
Thanks for reading!

Aww…wish dad and Judy got a chance to bond as Amy and Judy. Really well-written story, by the way, and tackling an interesting topic π

Thank you very much! Yeah, Judy would’ve loved to go to the funky munky with Amy. My guess is dad was too afraid to tell her the truth sooner. I agree, interesting topic! My last flash-fiction contribution was also in the LGBT-area. π

Oh, was it? I’ll be on the lookout for that flash fiction. I think there definitely needs to be more LGBT representation in stories, so I’m always glad to come across a well-written one π

Judy’s dad was Amy – dressed in a red wig and lipstick! That’s good that Judy found out that he was a proud parent. Great story!

Interesting work. I feel a bit sad he couldn’t tell her while he was alive.

Thanks! Yeah, me too. Judy would’ve loved to come with “Amy” to the funky munky. I guess he was too afraid of how she’d react.
