“All the Time in the World”

He parked the car outside her house. There was no sign of her. He took a deep breath to relieve some of the stress.

This was a stupid idea. He’d only just met this woman, why had he agreed to go on a date with her so soon? Why tonight? The most important report of his career was due tomorrow, and he hadn’t even started yet. He might as well hand in his resignation.

He felt a headache coming on. He seriously didn’t have time for this, he would literally lose his job. The thought made his chest hurt.

This was insane! He’d have to call off the date, that’s all there was to it. In fact, why was he even still here? He started the car.

The car door opened and she got in. He saw her kind, shy smile and remembered why he’d wanted to meet her so soon. He had all the time in the world.

    1. Thank you Tracey! Sounds wise. 🙂 This man is too caught up in the world of deadlines, as in rushing from one to the other, to reflect on such things I’m afraid. Perhaps he can break free now that he’s met that special someone. ^_^

  2. story and photo went so well together especially your title. i struggle with titles more than content so this was nicely paired. i guess times standstill when you are with someone new and the relationship is just starting,,,,i hope he is not deceived into thinking that! just my take on the story.

    1. Thanks! The title and the ending were a bit of a struggle for me on this one. But once I had the ending locked down I realized I could get the title from it as well. It’s like the title is a promise, and in the end the story delivers on that promise. Suddenly the title makes sense, and I think the reader appreciates discovering that. Starting a new relationship can certainly make everything else feel unimportant. 🙂 I admit that the story could go either way. It’s open-ended. Personally I like to think that he just found the love of his life, and work… Meh. It’ll figure itself out. 🙂

  7. All the stress over work just melted away at the sight of a lovely warm smile. I hope he doesn’t regret the date once he’s back at work tomorrow. Your title for this works really well, too.

    1. Yeah. He’ll probably suffer at work the next day, but, as long as he gets a second date I think he’ll be alright. And something tells me he will. 🙂 Funny you should mention the title. I struggled for the longest time with that! It was really difficult this time for some reason. Glad you liked it. 🙂

    1. Thank you very much! I’m glad you liked the ending, I tried really hard to make it end on a happy note this time. I’ve discovered that I tend to go for sad endings in these flash fiction challenges. So I wanted to try and break free from that, to challenge myself. I don’t want to be all about doom and gloom stories. 🙂
