A familiar, clanking sound woke her up. Another knight had arrived to demand another service. She stretched the sleep from her body, and left the cave.
The knight was holding a shield and bag. She recognized the emblem on his shield. How she hated it.
“I bring news,” the knight said. “Today, the King entrusted his secret to me. He told me he’d bound a dragon to his service by stealing her eggs. He was extorting the dragon, to be blunt.”
She snorted. “News to you, perhaps, but my living nightmare.”
The knight nodded. “The king also told me he’d grown to fear this dragon, fear that she might attack the castle out of desperation. Therefore, he ordered me to kill her, and destroy the eggs.”
Her babies… dead? Shock and sorrow drained all her strength, and she slumped to the ground.
The knight reached into his bag, and threw an item towards her. A weapon of some sort, she assumed. It didn’t matter. Nothing mattered.
The item came to rest inches away from her. It was the head of the King.
“My Lady, I reject such a King,” the knight said, and gently placed her eggs on the ground.

Nice tale. Happy the knight left the dragon and her eggs alone.

Thank you! Yes, happier than words can describe – which worked out great since I ran out of words. π

Haha It can be difficult fitting a story into 200 words.
