“A Mesmerizing Evil”

“A Mesmerizing Evil”

There are many cursed gemstones in this world, but I know of none as wicked or powerful as the one I now hold in my hand. Lovers have killed each other for it. Wars have been fought over it. The greatest intellectuals in human history have sought to tame it, only to have their minds overthrown.

It took me almost a lifetime to track it down, but I finally have it. Soon, its powers will be mine.

Although, looking at it now, it seems impossible that such a beautiful thing can be that evil. Its sparkling brilliance is mesmerizing, and it actually appears to be more than just light. It’s as if it has warmth, feelings, and thoughts. It has a personality.

I understand now. The others weren’t compatible with it. That’s why their minds cracked. It didn’t mean to hurt them. That won’t happen to me because I’m special, and much stronger than they were, it says so.

It will gladly give me its power. I only have to look a little closer.

  1. It seems the stone is already working its spell on him and drawing him into its power. Soon he’ll be under its influence, good and proper, just like all the others. His own conceit will be his downfall. Intriguing story. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks! I appreciate it. πŸ™‚ I also wanted to add a “reveal”, where he in his last moments understood what a horrible mistake he’d made. But I ran out of words, and the story didn’t REALLY need it. Though it would have been fun to write!

    1. Thank you Jade! In my draft I’d just written “cursed gem” but as I was writing the story it felt like it needed something more, so, I thought it’d be fun to make the gem “come to life”, so to speak. Glad you liked it! πŸ™‚
(Edit: Your intuition is spot on… πŸ™‚ )
